Another foreign element in Rajasthan

Russell Brand and Katie Perry tied the knot at Ranthambhore, Liz Hurley and Arun Nayar got hitched in Jodhpur and New York hotelier Vikram Chatwal married Priya Sachdev in Udaipur – the three marriages may be history, but Rajasthan continues to lure the international jet-set with its ageless charm. Before stories of DLF chief K.P. Singh’s 80th birthday celebrations in Udaipur topped by a performance by Colombian singing sensation Shakira could fade out of public memory, Jodhpur is agog with the 50th birthday party thrown by supermodel Naomi Campbell for her boyfriend, the Russian tycoon Vladimir Doronin.

If there’s a destination in India that is top of mind for top-end travelers, it is Rajasthan.

The state seems to have stolen the thunder of even God’s Own Country. So much so, that even when Begum Khaleda Zia, Bangladesh’s opposition leader, chooses to unwind, she visits Rajasthan, as she did last week.

“In 2011, the state received over 27 million domestic and 1.4 million international tourists

Rajasthan Tourism had organized ‘Treasures’ along with the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum Trust and Embassy of Egypt to promote the handicrafts of the state. The third edition of Fiona Caulfield’s guide, Love Jaipur, was also launched as a part of the celebration of the state’s rich heritage.

With Rajasthan getting international publicity for free, thanks to the likes of Naomi Campbell, travel portals and tour operators are laughing all the way to the bank. Campbell, for instance, has hired the 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur for the birthday celebrations. The guests will stay at the Umaid Bhawan Palace, another Jodhpur landmark, and the dinner on the birthday night will be at the fort’s Daulat Khana. Vishal Suri.

Luxury travelers are opting for royal holidays in the palaces of Rajasthan, especially in Udaipur and Jaipur. These palace hotels enable high-end tourists to live like maharajas.  General Manager of the recently opened international luxury hotel, Fairmont Jaipur, confirmed the trend.

There was a time when Jaipur was known solely for its tourist spots and shopping, but that is no longer the case!!

Jaipur’s profile has changed dramatically because of events such as the Jaipur Literature Festival. It is now also seen as a high-end wedding destination. These factors have boosted the city’s luxury.
