As part of Dasara holidays, IRCTC is flagging off its special Royal Rajasthan Charter Train from Bangalore consisting of four – 3Tier AC Coaches and nine Sleeper Class Coaches on October 09, 2013 on a 12-day tour carrying tourists from Bangalore, Mysore, Hassan, Arsikere, Hubli, Bellary to the magnificent tourist destinations in Rajasthan — Udaipur-Chittaurgarh-Jaipur-Jaisalmer-Jodhpur- Mount Abu.

The unique features of the charter train are that it carries only tourists, has a separate Pantry car to cater South Indian vegetarian food, each coach has a manager and a security; coaches are equipped with Public Announcement system. The charter train also includes accommodation wherever night stays are planned and buses are arranged for sightseeing.

The tourists have been classified into Budget, Standard, Comfort & Deluxe and the rates are: Rs. 19,050, Rs. 21,370, Rs. 27,950 and Rs. 32,550 respectively.

Two luxury trains in Rajasthan to don a new look

The popular luxury trains of Rajasthan – Palace on Wheels and Royal Rajasthan on Wheels are soon going to get a major makeover.  Being sensitive towards the expectations of the travelers, the Indian Railways and RTDC have decided to refurbish the trains with new heritage look adorned by the finest trappings one can expect from a luxe train.

All the facilities  in the trains are being modernized including water purifiers in washrooms aside from superior communication and entertainment devices. Even the dining cart, the bar and lounge will be given a new look. The spa and health club will also get major upgrades.

As for the RROW makeover, the wooden floors would be covered with exquisite carpets to minimize noise. Further, new doors will replace existing ones. Besides, the train speed will also be increased so that guests spend less time on wheels and enjoy more time at the destinations. However, the itinerary and tariffs for the trains will remain same in 2013-14.

Jaipur Agra Shatabdi Express to hit the tracks

The pink city is all set to receive the gift of Shatabdi express soon. Announcement about the train was made in the union rail budget 2011. As per the Railway officials, Coaches of the luxury train have now reached Jaipur and the train would come down on track from November30, 2012.

The Jaipur-Agra fort Shatabdi express is scheduled to depart from Jaipur at 7:05 in the morning with an arrival time of 10:35 at Agra. It would return from Agra fort at 4:20 in the evening and would reach Jaipur at 7:50 pm. The train would only halt at Bharatpur station during its journey.

Bikana Heritage Rail Museum opened for public viewing

The old museum of Heritage Rails in Bikaner has now been open for the Public. The museum called “Bikana Heritage Rail Museum” displays equipment, items and documents pertaining to the operation and maintenance of the railways.

This museum was set up to educate the common man as to how and what equipment and items were in use in railway department since last 200 years.

Currently, around 350 items have been displayed in the museum relating to Bikaner and Jodhpur State Railway era, and some of these items were imported from England, US and other countries during State era. An example of the development process of the railways can be understood from a painting entitled “Janana Station Bikaner” which depicts Bikaner railway station as ladies station in the year 1920.

One more important item on display is a ‘Crane’ made in England in the year 1889 which was used for supply of coal in the engine. Similarly a Crew-Rest Van made in the year 1940 has been displayed.  Besides, other items like hand-pumps, water lifting pump, drill machine, ground-light fittings, weighing machine, telecommunication equipment  tool box and hand-held signaling equipments have also been displayed in the museum.

Palace on Wheels and Royal Rajasthan on Wheels roll on their first commercial Journey for 2012-13

World famous and India’s foremost royal luxury train -”The Palace on Wheels” (POW) rolled on its first commercial journey for 2012-13 to Rajasthan & other destinations especially World’s famous wonder Taj Mahal of Agra from Safdarjung Railway Station, New Delhi. In first trip 54 tourists expected to travel from different places of the world on this super luxurious train. In 34 rounds from September 2012 to April 2013 three thousand one hundred passengers are expected to travel in this royal train.

In order to provide the World Class journey with the five star facilities in the train POW has luxuries and modern facilities including Royal “Spa” and “gym” for the passengers. The train has 23 coaches comprising of 14 Saloon’s, One Spa Coach, two Restaurant known as “Maharaja” & “Maharani” & one “Reception cum Bar”. The itinerary for the season would be Delhi-Jaipur-Sawaimadhopur-chittorgarh-Udaipur-Jaisalmer-Jodhpur-Bharatpur-Agra-Delhi. The capacity of POW is of carrying 104 passengers at a time.


An additional coach is added in the name of Royal SPA where the guests will enjoy Ayurvedic & Non Ayurvedic massage. This year the Palace on Wheels will provide delicious Indian & Foreign Food to the valued guests.

After the grand success of POW which is Joint venture of RTDC & Indian Railways they have started another Super luxury Train “Royal Rajasthan on Wheels” which will be rolled out its first commercial journey for this year from October 7th, 2012 to Rajasthan and other destinations like for Khajuraho and Varanasi from Safdarjung Railway station, New Delhi.

Maharaja’s Express Luxury Train Revamped !

Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has revamped luxury tourist train Maharaja’s Express to make it more popular among the tourists. 

For the coming season, the train will be operating on 5 new itineraries on four routes, which would include two itineraries of 4 days each with a view to meeting the long felt demand for a shorter itinerary.  So far the train had only been operating on 8-day itineraries which also meant that the trip cost was far higher.

The new itineraries are:

Treasures of India (3 nights/ 4 days)–Delhi –Agra – Ranthambore – Jaipur –Delhi;

Gems of India (3 nights/ 4 days) –Delhi –Agra – Ranthambore – Jaipur –Delhi;

Indian Splendour (7 nights/ 8 Days) Delhi– Agra – Ranthambore – Jaipur – Bikaner–Jodhpur – Udaipur – Balasinor – Mumbai;

Heritage of India (7 nights/ 8 Days)– Mumbai–Ajanta–Udaipur – Jodhpur–Bikaner–Jaipur– Ranthambore–Fatehpur Sikri – Agra – Delhi.

The new entry level price of $3580 has been offered for the four day itinerary which will give the passenger a Deluxe Cabin.

On like to like basis the prices have been reduced from $7160 to $6360 for an eight day trip for travel in Deluxe Cabin. The highest price will be $22000 per person for Presidential Suite for 8 day itinerary.

Such cut down in fares would make the places of high tourist importance and the World Heritage Sites more attractive for NRIs and foreign tourists.
