Though the national park is now closed for tourism due to monsoon, it is scheduled to open on October 1. “Torrential rain has done a world of good to forests in the state. While the water bodies in Ranthambore are overflowing, the rains have virtually turned the reserve into a rainforest. If tourism is ever allowed in the reserves, it will be a treat for the visitors,” an official said.

“The rain has also added to the green cover of the reserve. With no entry for tourists or vehicles, nothing has been able to disturb the undergrowth in the forests.

Eid ul-Fitr marks the end of the month of Ramadan. ‘Fitr’ means to break and it signifies the breaking of the fasting period and of all evil habits. Ranthambhore National Park may have tiger safari soon

With the Centre having agreed in principle to a proposal by the Rajasthan Tourism Department, Ranthambore Tiger Reserve might soon have its own tiger safari. According to the proposal, there will be large enclosures for tigers that will enable tourists to conveniently see them. The move comes after a recent ban by the Supreme Court on Tiger Tourism in core areas.

Rajasthan Tourism Minister, Bina Kak said that they will move old or injured tigers in the enclosure so that they can be taken care of well. It will be a safe haven for them. At the same time, tourists will also get a chance to see them. The safari would help take some tigers away from the over-populated Ranthambore National Park. For example, Machli, the most popular tigress in Ranthambhore, can be moved here. She’s got old and is not able to hunt on own her own anymore.  Currently, there are about 52 tigers in the reserve to be sighted by the tourists.

Tiger cub spotted in Sariska Tiger Reserve

Sariska had been longing to see Tiger cubs for long. Finally the prayers and hard work of Sariska officials and wildlife lovers got rewarded by the almighty.

The tigress ST-2 has been spotted with her cub at Kalighati and Slopka areas of the sanctuary in a camera trap. More cubs are expected to be sighted in the upcoming days, but the recently sighted cub confirmed the news of ST-2′s delivery. Wild life officials are trying to secure some more photographs of the animal.

The Sariska reserve now has five adult tigers, of which three are females and two males. With a cub spotted now, the total number is now six.

In 2004-05, the forest department and the Rajasthan government faced all-round criticism over the disappearance of tigers from Sariska. The state government then decided to relocate tigers from the RanthamboreNational Park in Sawai Madhopur district to Sariska.

The Sariska reserve, originally a hunting preserve of the erstwhile princely state of Alwar, was declared a wildlife reserve in 1955. It got the status of a National Park in 1979.
